New Horizons
for Teaching & Learning
Your future school has come! This is your most exciting time – the chance to come to one of only two Academies in the area and follow inspirational and engaging education on your doorstep.
At the Richard Rose Central Academy we prepare our students for adult and working life in the 21st century. Our student centred, dynamic and exciting learning environment will support the highest standards in academic, vocational and personal achievements for all our students to surpass their individual potential. We want our drive, passion and enthusiasm to be infectious, so that our students believe that,with us, there is no limit to what they can achieve – ‘Personal Best’ will be everyone’s goal.
We recognise that the Academy’s success is rooted in the quality of relationships throughout the learning community. Our main focus will be developing in students a respect for each other and for learning. The Academy will work in partnership with parents, carers and families, the mainstay of a child’s life, to support achievement and raise aspirations.
 The Academy will move into a brand new, purpose-built and furnished building in January 2011, but until then our impressive range of facilities includes:
- Classroom spaces designed to take advantage of the latest techniques and teaching aids;
- Advanced ICT suites, laboratories and workshops with industry standard equipment;
- First class facilities for all our students learning needs;
- Extensive academic, project based and vocational courses to inspire and motivate;
- A wide range of exciting extra-curricular and support services to enhance and extend the curriculum.
The Richard Rose Central Academy is an exciting and inspiring place to learn. The development of literacy and numeracy will be key features of the curriculum and an important element of this is the targeted support for Year 7 that will assist transition from primary school.
The Academy’s Science and Sport specialisms will mean that,while offering a varied and balanced curriculum, there will also be emphasis on these subjects across the curriculum, and students will benefit from specialist teaching as well as from the broad academic and vocational curriculum.
All members of staff share the vision for the Academy and work with dedication and commitment to motivate and inspire students to achieve the highest possible results. High expectations, supported by excellent resources, leading edge technology in our new building and expert teaching from well-qualified specialist staff, ensure that all students have the opportunity to achieve their potential.
Curriculum
Key Stage 3 Students follow the National Curriculum and they are 'banded' according to ability. The Curriculum is designed to meet the needs of every child. A and B band students follow a traditional curriculum with C band undertaking more vocational and skills-based courses, including ASDAN in Year 8 and 9.
In Key Stage 4 all students choose a personalised learning programme from a range of options that are appropriate to their aspirations, ambitions and career plans. Students are able to select from a broad range of GCSE subjects; or they may choose a combination of GCSE and Btec options. Alternatively, they may opt for a vocational pathway which allows them to complete ASDAN awards to GCSE equivalent level as well as studying an appropriate course at College.
We offer an extensive range of post-16 courses at level 1,2, and 3. Currently 6th from provision is based at the City Centre site whilst the new Academy is being built. It also has excellent support services to ensure that Students achieve their individual potential.
