Making a

Positive Contribution

Making a Positive ContributionThere has been a determination this year to establish a secure and inclusive ethos. At Richard Rose Central we encourage students to work hard and in return we recognise their achievements. We are keen to have well behaved students who work well together and who enjoy school in a safe and positive environment. The Academy is achieving this by establishing strong relationships with parents and the local community.

At Richard Rose Central Academy we have an established House Structure, namely Eden, Gelt, Irthing and Petteril. All students are encouraged to take part in Inter-House competitions, such as Orienteering, Dance, Maths Challenge, Literacy Challenge, Quiz and Athletics. The House teams comprise students from all Year groups and their success is celebrated in half-termly assemblies.

The School Council

The Richard Rose Central Academy School Council is an effective partnership between students and staff. Students are elected to the Council by their Teams, and the Council has an elected Chair. The Council has a well-defined committee structure in which students actively pursue a range of activities. All students are encouraged to take part. Student Voice does not end there however. Students are included in the planning, running and review of all school activities, involved in policy making as well as supporting their peers in improving their own behaviour and counselling.

Parent VoiceParent Voice

At Richard Rose Central Academy, we value the role of Parents in supporting their own children's education, as well contributing towards the smooth running of the Academy. The Parent Voice group was formed to ensure that the single voices of Parents are combined into a unified and common voice.

Even Higher?

The Richard Rose Central Academy has a number of gifted and talented students, who are of high academic ability or are talented in the arts or sport. Often, these students are identified in their junior schools, and pastoral staff work closely with our partner schools to see that these students are supported in secondary school. Our teacher co-ordinator ensures that these students are challenged to work at the highest level in class. Meanwhile, our pastoral staff work with outside organisations such as Aimhigher to give students early opportunities to experience university life or to take part in competitions and events such as business challenges or representing the county in sport.

Even Higher?University Links

The School has a number of links with Universities, but particularly the University of Cumbria, who is one of our sponsors. Through our work with the Aimhigher programme all students have the opportunity to learn about the benefits of a University education. Students have the chance to visit University open days and spend a day as a student. We have organised several very successful summer residential courses and University students come into lessons to share their experiences of life as a student.
