A Healthier Student
Welfare
The remit of the Year Teams is to ensure that students are well cared for. The Team is responsible for child protection, attendance, counselling (including peer mentoring), health checks, student illness, student welfare and free school meals. Parents may contact the Team about any student welfare matter. Your son/daughter's Tutor works closely with the Guidance Leader in supporting the programme. This is designed to encourage students to take responsibility for improving and maintaining their physical and emotional health.

Health
Student health problems are dealt with effectively, in liaison with Parents, Tutor, Guidance Leaders and Head of Year.
We are in a very fortunate position of having a School Nurse to ensure students are well cared for. Students and their families are signposted to external services, where appropriate to support their wellbeing.
Physical Activity
The PE programme encourages students to take part in physical activities and to enjoy themselves. All students in the Academy take part in 2 hours of high quality PE each week. PE and Dance are popular and successful options at GCSE level.
In addition, inter-House sporting events are held regularly, and there are weekly extracurricular clubs. Our Academy teams compete in inter-school matches, whilst our most talented students are encouraged to participate in high-level events.
We encourage all members of our community to be physically active and our excellent facilities are used by staff as well as students.
Dining
Our catering team uses good quality produce, sourced ethically and locally where possible and cooks all the food onsite. In conjunction with our Academy staff, the team works tirelessly to raise the standard of food in the Academy:
- Breakfast is available in the Canteen from 8am each morning to give students a healthy start to the day;
- Still drinks, juice or milk-based drinks are sold. Students are allowed to take bottled water into the classrooms;
- Sandwiches and healthy snacks are available at break-time (11am);
- A potato option is available every day but fried potatoes are served only once a week.
The Student Voice has made a significant contribution to choosing and designing the lunch-time menus.
